Walk 2: Desire Lines

A desire line is defined as “an informal path that pedestrians prefer to take to get from one location to another rather than using a sidewalk or other official route”. In looking for desire lines, I decided to take a trip to a park near one of my family members' houses. The park is called Mission Manor Park, and I arrived there at around 7:30 am. Once I got there, I noticed that there were a handful of people walking on the main outskirt's sidewalk getting in an early workout. I decided to follow the main sidewalk and observe if there were desire lines near the designated path. If there were desire lines, why were they there if there was already a decently sized paved sidewalk?

  1. Aaliyah your pictures clearly show the desire lines leading to the location. It was helpful to read the reasons you stated for the desire lines because it gave a more up close look since you were actually there in person.

  2. Hi Aaliyah, your organization skills made this post so easy to digest (thank you!) I think including a photo or two of people using these desire lines would really help bring all of your context for your images together, honestly just one photo would be needed to emphasize your point!

  3. Hello Aaliyah, This organization is very easily readable and really good I really enjoy the reason behind each desire line. I thought that was a really good idea instead of calculating the distance between walking the normal path and the desire line. Although I think that would also help, just to see if it is faster to take the desire line rather than the normal path. Great Job!

  4. Hi Aaliyah! I enjoy your descriptions toward your images, a park is a good location for this desired lines project as parks really are free of roam, one thing I wish you did differently was your formatting for the images, to be much bigger with the description underneath, and then if possible allow us to scroll down similar to a PDF or really just up and down format to take a better look at the imagery.
